As you may already know, there is a sizable grass roots write-in campaign mounting here in Island county on behalf of Sharon Franzen for the position of county clerk. The Whidbey News-Times and South Whidbey Record have received numerous letters concerning her unfair firing and they have written two very favorable articles dealing with the write-in movement.

If Sharon gets one percent of the votes cast in the primary, she will qualify to be put on the ballot for the general election in November. We are urging everyone to write Sharon Franzen in on their ballots Tuesday, Sept. 17, no matter what their party affiliation is.

If you decide to write Sharon In, you need to keep in mind that you must write in all three of the following things for the vote to be counted: the position (County Clerk), her name (Sharon Franzen) and her party affiliation (now Democrat). We are also encouraging everyone to call or e-mail their friends and neighbors to encourage them to do the same.

Sharon has been receiving many supporting phone calls and messages, urging her to run. Her support is coming from individuals from both parties and many have voiced the opinion that not only was her termination wrong, but that they are sick of the “good ol’ boys” politics that allowed this to happen in the first place. We think Sharon has a good chance of getting the one percent she needs, but time to get the word out is cut critically short. Anything you can do to make people aware of this write-in option would be greatly appreciated not only by Sharon, but by those of us who support her.

Bring your pens to the polls! Sharon Franzen —22 years’ experience, Jane Koetje —1 year experience.

Do the math! Write your vote this way: County Clerk, Sharon Franzen, Democrat.
