Floyd was perhaps a ‘nice guy,’ but his background was flawed

Editor,

Regarding the June 6 letter to the editor, “His Name was George Floyd, remember it.”

Let’s get the facts straight about him. George may have been a “nice guy,” but he was a drug user, he was intoxicated, he had a criminal record and he committed a crime by trying to pass a $20 counterfeit bill. Remember that when you think of him.

George started this whole situation, which has cost millions of dollars, many lives, ruined businesses and changed all of us.

All of this mayhem and destruction over a counterfeit $20.

His “spirit” and “breath” were taken from him for $20 to buy a pack of cigarettes. Had he used legal tender none of this would have happened.

Why did the store owner call the police over a counterfeit $20 if they knew George so well? Too many details have been overlooked.

Yes, the cops were overly aggressive. Everyone knows that part of the story, but many do not know how it started.

Let’s add a sign to the protests, “No counterfeit $20 bills.”

Tell it like it is.
