Diatribe against the conservatives

Wow, Edward Drum’s “Stop Obama, save America” letter sure hits all the right wing talking points. The first thing that struck me was the president having trouble repeating the oath of office. I’d never watched it but knew that Justice Roberts blew the oath and the president had to be sworn in a second time. Justice Roberts spoke haltingly and mixed up the words, leading the president to speak out of turn and wonder if Justice Roberts was going to correct himself. He didn’t and the oath had to be given a second time.

I like to check quotes to find context and Googled “I don’t need to deal with Congress, I’ll bypass them.” Amazingly enough, the only link was back to a letter identical to Edward Drum’s by M1324W. I presume they are the same person. Either the president was misquoted or more likely the quote was made up.

Yes, we’re up to our ears in debt. The Bush presidency is still haunting us. About one-third of the debt today comes from wars and tax cuts made by the previous administration. The current president shares some of the blame for not ending the wars and the Bush tax cuts.

Regressive conservatives want to turn the country into a Daddy State where gun totin’ Christian men get to make the rules and mete out punishment. I’d much prefer they play Daddy with their own family and leave me and our country out of it.

Republicans are the party of gut and spend. They keep hacking away at the safety net while comforting the powerful and rich. The middle class continues in decline. The “used to haves” are in one boat and the “have most everything else” own the marina and the rest of the boats. There are  two classes and most of us are in the lower one.

I wonder if my pension (an earned entitlement like Social Security) will be around as long as I am. Others have not been so lucky.

Republicans are the party of large corporate government. We now have corporations writing bills for their pocket legislators to pass into law. The Citizens United decision brings the unlimited wealth of the wealthy to bear on our elections. It’s brought us a wealth of GOP crackpots, a serial adulterer, another Texan and godly candidates. In the end, it seems we’ve ended up with Romney, a chameleon few voters like but he’s sure loved by corporations and the wealthy. He does have that “not Obama” thing going for him.

Please don’t take this letter as an endorsement for President Obama. It’s merely a diatribe against conservatism and the GOP.
