I just have to weigh in on the Wellness Center project. I have gotten over the fact the word “hospital” has gone the way of the buggy whip, and that we didn’t get the more sustainable solar panels promised when we voted for the “hospital” bond, but what happened to our pride from being at the center of a national reserve, and where is the pride that we are held to a higher standard.
The disgraceful display of multi-millionaire football players kneeling during our national anthem on the anniversary of the 9/11 anniversary changed that. It might be “free speech” to disrespect our flag, but my free speech allows me to write this and to turn off my TV set.
Doris Brevoort, rhymes with report, running for State Representative for the 10th Legislative District, is a refreshing change to the current position holder, Dave Hayes.
Thank you, Rick Kiser, for your Sept. 3 letter chastising those engaged in civil disobedience near the refineries in Anacortes. There are a couple of things to clarify. First they aren’t protestors, they are defenders.
Editor,
Let me see if I’ve got this straight. The Republican machine puts out a full-page mailer filled with lies, half truths and photo shopped pictures attacking Angie Homola. These are exactly the same tactics used by Sen. Barbara Bailey in her attacks against former senator Mary Margaret Haugen four years ago.

Carol Allender wants proof that Sen. Barbara Bailey takes money from unsavory contributors. Sen. Bailey’s contributions are listed at votesmart.org and include $8,150 from pharmaceutical companies and $700 from payday lenders.
A very simple way to get Mexico to pay for the wall is to use the federal aid our government gives Mexico.
As mentioned in Whidbey News-Times reporter Ron Newberry’s Sept. 3 article on the Haller House, Historic Whidbey’s efforts to save the historic house are now over.
I guess the past week or so has been “Attack Sen. Barbara Bailey” week with all the negative letters that made it to the editorial page.
When they go to trial, if they are convicted, I think the judge should rescind their driver’s licenses indefinitely — no driving, no more fossil fuels burnt — and should shut off all the gas or oil where they live.
The 2016 Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival is now but a sweet and successful memory. Tents that went up are now down, trash cans and recycle bins have been taken away, the Town Green restored from its much needed parking lot to Saturday’s Farmer’s Market — with everything stored to be at the ready for next year’s festival.
While I had admired Angie’s hard work and passion to serve the people of Island County as a commissioner from 2008 to 2012, it wasn’t until she joined the American Association of University Women that I saw her up close in action.
Whidbey Island citizens’ intent to gain the legal right to walk to the beach or launch a kayak at the end of Wonn Road may be all but lost. With a Skagit County judge’s decision to obstruct your quest for justice, your wishes may be nullified by the intricacies of the legal system and the financial power of one man.
