For me, dark money conjures up images of scruffy desperadoes switching briefcases on a park bench in some country with a funny name like Karokistan. The money is for some nefarious act like blowing up the train station, but we never know who bought the dynamite.
Our country can withstand a Trump term of office. The damage Hillary would do to our country and Constitution with leftist justice appointees would last for generations. Is this what the people want in a president?
Why isn’t the presidential election decided by popular vote instead of the current electoral college system? The “swing” states get all the attention.
After Aug. 16, the absolute, incredible failure of Island County Commissioner Helen Price Johnson to propose amendments to Commissioner Jill Johnson’s resolution about alleged health impacts from Outlying Field Coupeville showed a failure to lead. Commissioner Price Johnson speaks of “common ground” but a failure to accept an invitation to engage in the parliamentary process to improve Commissioner Jill Johnson’s resolution is an absolute, incredible failure to be a parliamentarian on the Board of Health.
Island County Commissioner District 1 voters have given Helen Price Johnson an over-whelming show of support with their 70 percent “yes” vote in the primary election. This should show the rest of Island County that she is the best candidate for a continuation of the work she has done as a commissioner these past eight years.
The 2016 Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival is now but a sweet and successful memory.
This same type of dishonest hit piece was sent out at the last election in 2012 against your Democratic opponent, Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen by the very same corporate Republican Super Pac — your friends at the Good Government Leadership Council down in Centralia. You know as well as I that these hit pieces are coming, usually showing up just before election day, and that you depend on them for some of your votes.
I ask Sen. Bailey to return the $27,100 that was donated to her Senate reelection campaign by contributors to that “outside organization.”
I ran a clean and respectful campaign and was disappointed to see that Barbara Bailey’s big corporate backers, a group deceptively named Good Government Leadership Council (GGLC), engaged in a vicious and unsubstantiated smear campaign.
Joseph Whidbey State Park has a posted announcement at the entrance requesting visitors to answer a survey on their experience at the state parks website.
Mr. Donald E. Bettner’s comments in his letter to the editor on “Repealing the Second Amendment” are fallacious on the face of them.
With Trump running his mouth about the Second Amendment and Hillary’s so-called campaign to remove the Second Amendment of the Constitution, he is only playing on the fact that most conservatives will believe this lie and not try to research it.
The Island County Board of Commissioners is elected to represent constituents with a broad range of social, economic, environmental, commercial and agricultural interests.
