Margaret Rosenkranz

Margaret Rosenkranz, 60, longtime Coupeville resident, died in her home Sunday, May 23, 2004, after a long fought battle with cancer.

Born in 1943 to Howard and Elnora Hill, Margaret married Ernie Rosenkranz in 1961. By her will, her young family moved from Seattle to Coupeville in 1969, so her boys might have trees to climb and room for adventures. Hired by the Island County Auditor in 1970 to record land records by hand, Margaret went on to a fulfilling career with the county serving as deputy auditor, auditor, budget director and clerk of the board of commissioners before retiring in 2001.

Margaret enjoyed life, especially the historic Victorian home she and Ernie worked to remodel by their own hands over the years, a process she very nearly saw completed. Other joys included traveling with Ernie and collecting antiques, especially dolls and figurines.

Survived by her mother Elnora Hill, brother Larry Hill, husband Ernie and three sons, Mark and wife Sharon, Scott and wife Kerry, Peter and wife Casaundra, grandchildren Matthew, Luke, Andrea, Erin, Megan, Sammy Sue and Emily. Margaret will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be Thursday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel, Rev. Clifford Weimer officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, One Hanover Park, 16633 North Dallas Parkway, Suite 600, Addison, TX 75001.
