Margaret ‘Peg’ Compton

Margaret “Peg” Compton, 78, died Feb. 20, 2004, at Whidbey Island Manor. She was born Dec. 2 ,1925, at Sandstone, Minn., to Frederick and Daisy (Hood ) Walker.

After graduation from Sandstone High School in 1943, she was employed as a long distance operator for Bell Telephone in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1945, she married Roy Compton at Sandstone. They resided at many Air Force installations until retirement on Whidbey Island in 1965.

In 1979 and 1980 she was past matron of Tula Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She also enjoyed the activities of The Order of Amaranth, and Daughters of the Nile.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Roy, by four children; Wanda Maxey, of Blainsport, Pa.; Douglas (Erlinda) Compton, Orange, Calif.: Roy (Jackie) Compton, Jr., Lynnwood; and Myra (Stephen) Davis, Arlington: seven grandchildren; one sister, Kitty Sterling of Lafeyette, Colo., and one brother, Tom (Bea) Walker of Marblehead, Ohio.

Memorials may be directed to Whidbey General Hospital.

No services will be held at her request. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements under the care of Burley Funeral Chapel.
