Margaret Jean “Peggy” Moore died Dec. 22, 2008, in Coupeville following a lengthy illness.
Peggy was born Jan. 31, 1922, to Michael and Mary Agnes Furlong in Cosmopolis, Wash. After graduating high school, she moved with her family to Seattle where she soon met her husband, Greer Moore. Peggy and Greer were married on Sept. 18, 1943. In 60 years of marriage, Peggy and Greer traveled extensively and lived in a number of U.S. cities and abroad. They retired to their summer home on Whidbey Island in 1978.
In Coupeville Peggy was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Polly Harpole Hospital Guild. She volunteered at Whidbey General Hospital and the Island County Historical Museum. Her biggest enjoyment came from entertaining family and friends at her home.
After Greer’s death in October 2003, Peggy moved to Regency on Whidbey in Oak Harbor, and in late May 2008, her declining health led Peggy to Careage of Whidbey where she remained until her death.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Catherine (Jim) Dunn of Ellensburg, and Laura Moore (Rick Almberg) of Oak Harbor. She will be missed by her grandchildren; Nora Bell, Michael Dunn, Kristin Barron, Hans Juhl, Mae-Anna Gibson, Nicholas Juhl, Nelson Almberg, Courtney Juhl, Allison Juhl; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family thanks the staff of Careage on Whidbey for their care of Peggy over the past seven months.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Coupeville with burial immediately following at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family requests memorial gifts to be sent to St. Mary’s Building Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
