Lloyd McNett

Lloyd Edward McNett passed away March 22, 2005. Born in Poulsbo, Dec. 21, 1917, Lloyd grew up in Cashmere. He enlisted in the Navy in January 1940 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Lloyd met the love of his life, Muriel, in Wenatchee in 1950 and they married later that year.

Throughout his 20 year naval career, Lloyd served on numerous ships and shore stations; the USS Buck, USS Badger, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, San Diego, Calif., and Yokuska, Japan to name just a few.

In 1958 Lloyd was transferred to Whidbey Island Naval Air Station where he worked as a meat cutter and supervisor of the meat department at the commissary store on the Seaplane Base. He retired from the Navy in 1960 and continued to work at the commissary store for civil service until he retired in 1976.

Lloyd enjoyed camping, gardening and reading. When his sons were young, Lloyd helped coach their little league teams and always supported his daughters in school band and music programs.

Lloyd was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor and enjoyed the sermons and short stories of Pastor David Lura.

There was a place in Lloyd’s heart for animals. When there was a stray dog or cat in the neighborhood, Lloyd was quick to take them in and adopt them into his home.

A Master Mason and member of the Coupeville Lodge 15, Lloyd was an active member of the Shriner’s in the Characters and Truckers precision drill team, participating in the Oak Harbor Holland Happening and Fourth of July parades, as well as parades throughout the state.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Muriel and his five children; Nancy, Sharon, Patty, Tim, Luke, and his nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary and her husband Earl (Blackie) Witzel, his brother Fred Schnell and his wife Sabine, and his honorary daughters Sharon McIntyre and Diana York, and honorary granddaughters Laura, Missy, and Shelly.

In lieu of flowers, Lloyd would have preferred donations made to the Washington Animal Improvement Foundation (WAIF) (360)-279-1244.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor.

Lloyd McNett, Dec. 21, 1917- March 22, 2005. We love you and will miss you.
