Ivan Leon Mayfield, 58, longtime resident of Whidbey Island, died at Whidbey Island Manor Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004.
Mr. Mayfield was born in Vallejo, Calif., June 24, 1946, to Roy Don Mayfield and Josephine (Wells) Mayfield. He moved with his family at an early age to Chetopa, Kan. He graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont, Kan. Following high school graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, and served during the Vietnam conflict. After 20 years of service to his country, Ivan retired at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 7392, the CPO Club and Fleet Reserve. Ivan enjoyed working in the woods, and the company of his dogs.
He is survived by his brother, Donald E. Mayfield of Huntsville, Ala., and his sister, Linda L. Moore of Wichita, Kan.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 13, from noon until 4 p.m. A graveside service will be Monday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery, with members of VFW Post No. 7392 officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2120 First Avenue N., Seattle, WA 98109. Arrangements under direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
Donald R. Fuller
Donald R. Fuller, 71, died at Whidbey General Hospital Nov. 9, 2004. He was born in Seattle May 28, 1933, to Clifford C. Fuller and Ethel (Johnson) Fuller.
Mr. Fuller entered the United States Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Princeton as a boiler tender.
Don moved to Whidbey Island in 1965 and subsequently was employed by the Island County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy for several years. He then went back to sea with the military sea transport service where he was a ships engineer. In later years Don was employed at the NAPA auto parts store and was a groundskeeper at the Navy golf course.
Don Fuller will be remembered for his love of classic cars, trucks and airplanes. He owned and worked on many over the years. Don was a member of the VFW Post 7392 and Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Fuller is survived by a brother, Robert E. Sharp of Coupeville and a number of nieces and nephews.
There will be no formal services held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
