Gregory Drew Hanshaw, Sr., 53, of Oak Harbor, died at his home Saturday, June 19, 2004, following a four-year battle with cancer.
Mr. Hanshaw was born in Seattle May 28, 1951, to Lawrence D. Hanshaw and Melva N. (Jones) Hanshaw. He was raised in Ballard, where he graduated from Ballard High School. He attended the University of Washington, where he received an associate of arts degree in computer sciences and communications.
June 30, 1978, Greg married Cathleen Irene Rennebohm in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. They resided in Bothell for 20 years. During this time, Greg owned and operated a legal messenger service in Seattle. He was an ardent soccer enthusiast, and coached for the North Shore Youth Soccer Association. In 1998, he sold his business in downtown Seattle and moved to Oak Harbor with his family. Greg and Cathy bought Sunset Kennels and he also started a local legal messenger service. He was a member of the Greater Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce. Greg is survived by his wife Cathy; three sons, Geoffrey Hanshaw and wife Heidi, Ronald Hanshaw and Gregory Hanshaw, Jr., all of Oak Harbor; two brothers, Ronald K. Hanshaw of Tacoma, and Alvin Hanshaw and wife Pam of Kenmore; one sister, Deborah Tolbert and husband Brian of Oklahoma City, Okla.; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Ruth Seeley of Oak Harbor; brothers-in-law, Richard Rennebohm and wife Cheryl of Oak Harbor and Ronald Rennebohm and wife Darla of Bow. Greg is also survived by several retired racing greyhounds. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Hanshaw in 1990, and by his mother, Melva Hanshaw June 4, 2004.
A memorial service will be Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 1 p.m., at Cleft of the Rock, 22729 Highway 9, Woodinville, Pastor Phil Skoog officiating. Memorials may be made to Greyhound Pets, Inc., 1614 W. Swantown Road, Oak Harbor, WA 98277.
