Glenn Van Wieringen

Glenn Van Wieringen, 84, passed away Sept. 29, 2009 in Mount Vernon, Wash., after a courageous battle with cancer.

Glenn was born on Jan. 11, 1925 in Oak Harbor to William and Sadie (Boon) Van Wieringen. He was raised in San de Fuca, attending grade school there and in Coupeville. The family then moved to Mount Vernon where he attended Harmony grade school. He went on to graduate from Mount Vernon High School in 1943.

After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific. Later in his life he belonged to the State and National LST Association.

In December of 1945 he married Nola Mason. Their first home was Bainbridge Naval Center, Md. After discharge, Glenn and Nola settled in Burlington, where he drove truck for various companies. Glen retired from truck driving in 1985.

Glenn belonged to DAV, Burlington American Legion and the VFW. He and Nola enjoyed traveling to various places over the years. Glenn also enjoyed golfing. Both Glenn and Nola enjoyed spending the last 50 years at their beach cabin in Coupeville with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Sadie Van Wieringen, and his son-in-law Bob Raper.

Glenn is survived by his wife Nola at the family home in Conway; his sister Ellen Merryman of Coupeville; daughters, Karen Raper of Burlington and Patty Krieger of Burlington; son Bill Van Wieringen and wife Patti of Conway; grandchildren and their spouses James (Louise) Krieger of Redmond, Tim (Melanie) Krieger of Issaquah, Jill (Brian) Raupp of Burlington, Jodi (Curt) Boon of Mount Vernon, Kristi Van Wieringen of Everett and Laura (Chris) Roddy of Tacoma; and great-grandchildren, Piper Raupp of Burlington and Leah Krieger of Issaquah.

A Graveside Service was held Oct. 3 at Hawthorne Memorial Park, followed by a Memorial Service at First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon. Arrangements by Kern Funeral Home.
