Swimmers stop Stanwood, face undefeated M-P Wednesday

Brushing aside Stanwood 102-68 Monday, the Oak Harbor girls’ swim now faces the challenge of undefeated and perennial power Marysville-Pilchuck Wednesday at 6 at John Vanderzicht Pool.

Oak Harbor is now 6-0-1, picking up double dual meet wins over Mountlake Terrace/Meadowdale and Sedro-Woolley/Burlington-Edison, and dual meet wins over Lake Stevens and Stanwood.

Marysville-Pilchuck is 3-0. Among its victims is Kamiak (102-83), the team that tied Oak Harbor 88-88. The Tomahawks also dispatched Stanwood, the team Oak Harbor defeated Monday, 104-79.

In Oak Harbor’s win over Stanwood, Laura Rosen and Kaarina Concepcion led the way with two individual wins each.

Rosen won the 100 fly in 1:01.63, missing a state qualifying time by .03 seconds, and she took the 500 free (5:25.86).

Concepcion took the two short freestyle races, winning the 50 in 27.05 and 100 in 57.72.

Rosen and Concepcion also teamed with Rachel Weinstein and Therese Desquitado to win the 200 free relay (1:47.86).

Weinstein picked up an individual win in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.72).

Akasha Trisler swam to a win in the 100 backstroke (1:05.54), and she combined with Tori Nickerson, Ciara Hu, and Desquitado to win the 400 free relay (4:07.89).

Hu also won the 200 individual medley (2:17.6) and finished second in the 500 free (5:45.84).
