Anne Goetz

What the heart has once opened, it shall never lose. Anne B. Goetz flew with the angels Sept. 28, 2006. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack (Hap) and is survived by her children Jan and husband Bob, Marc and wife Maureen, Jeff and wife Kathey. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren JK and wife Dixie, Karlyn, John, Kristen and Hannah.

Anne was born August 31, 1924 in Freeborn, Minn., the tenth of 12 children. Peter, Gertrude, Andrew, Helene and Raymond precede her in death. She is survived by Loretta, Juliana, John, Leo, Mary and Caroline.

Anne began her teaching career in a one-room school in Minnesota. She then traveled to Odessa, Wash., to teach grade school. It was there that she met the love of her life, Hap. They celebrated 55 years of marriage together. In 1950, they moved to Oak Harbor. Anne taught second grade in Oak Harbor for many years. She loved children. Her philosophy was “keep a spring in your step and a song in your heart.”

Anne enjoyed playing golf, spending time with her family and living on the beach. “Whidbey Island is a perfect place to let the mind and the feet wander.”

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Oak Harbor at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, with Rev. Philip Raether as Celebrant. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Enso House, 6339 Wahl Road, Freeland, WA. 98249. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
