Wind topples trees into house

Heavy winds Monday left a North Whidbey property damaged and strewn with tree branches.

Heavy winds Monday left a North Whidbey property damaged and strewn with tree branches and other debris.

Oak Harbor resident Macs McDonald reported that windblown tree tops made at least two holes in his roof and knocked items loose in the adjacent room. The logs also dislodged a gutter and damaged a vehicle in the driveway, crumpling the car’s roof and shattering the back windshield.

McDonald is no stranger to the adverse impact of Whidbey’s winds. He said he had only just gotten the vehicle back from the shop from the last time it was damaged by branches in a wind storm when Monday’s incident occured.

“When the wind blows around here, it’s bad,” he said.
