Deadline to enter Whidbey Island’s 7th annual Scarecrow Contest at Coupeville, is Monday, Sept. 22. All Whidbey Island residents, families, clubs, organizations are welcome to enter.

All prizes are cash. Again, in 2003 a sponsor has guaranteed that if 100 scarecrow builders follow the rules and keep their entries standing for the duration of the judging period, then first prize will be $500. Fewer than 100 scarecrows on the Scarecrow Corridor means no one is eligible to win the $500 first prize.

Judging will be based on one figure, which remains in position for the duration of this year’s contest. Scarecrows must be completely built and on display at assigned location by 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, and must remain in place until 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28. Scarecrows must be removed before Monday, Nov. 3.

If an entry consists of more than one figure, after the entry is in position the creators will be asked which figure is the one figure to be judged for the cash prizes. The “one figure” shall be maximum height 84-inches tall , minimum height 48-inches.

Scarecrows must include traditional straw and/or cornhusk; no electric, electronic or moving parts allowed; very sturdy construction, costumes, faces and accessories are encouraged.

Locations and entry number will be assigned.

Organizations with more than one division or committee may enter under the name of each division or each committee. Families can enter, individuals may enter and everyone who lives on a street can enter as a group. For more information, go to centralwhidbey
