Roman candle torches Oldsmobile

A 28-year-old Oak Harbor man is accused of causing a car fire with fireworks last summer, according to court documents.

Prosecutors charged Olin Bolden in Island County Superior Court July 2 with reckless burning in the first degree, a felony offense.

Oak Harbor Police Detective Lisa Jenne wrote in her report that Bolden was lighting off fireworks Aug. 21, 2006, outside of an apartment complex on N. Oak Harbor Street. He admitted that he threw a lit Roman candle inside of a parked car and watched it shoot off, Jenne wrote.

A fire engulfed the inside of the 1978 Oldsmobile Delta, causing extensive damage.

“Bolden told me he was just trying to have fun, but he’s now paying for it,” Jenne wrote.
