Nudist Democrat David Olinger, who ran as a write-in candidate for Island County Sheriff, won’t be going on to the general election.

The North Whidbey resident gained only 64 votes in the primary election.

To appear on November’s ballot as a write-in, a candidate has to receive at least 1 percent of the votes cast in that race. Olinger needed at least 133 votes to qualify.

Self-described as “pretty ferocious,” Olinger said he ran because he is unhappy at how many of the county’s elected officials were running unopposed. He announced his choice to run for sheriff, but added that he’d take any job people wrote him in for.

Olinger also took four votes for prosecutor, two votes for assessor, one vote for auditor and coroner, and three votes for state representative District No. 10, Position 1.

While his dreams to become sheriff were dashed, Olinger said his hope of becoming a punchline on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart may actually come true.
