New store puts its mark on Oak Harbor

Embroidery shop opens in downtown

Need a place to get some hats customized? Or some printed T-shirts for an upcoming event?

A new business in Oak Harbor may be able to help.

Bayview Embroidery ‘N Print opened for business last May on Pioneer Way right next to the Blue Dolphin in downtown Oak Harbor. They embroiders hats and cloths, prints T-shirts and produce novelty items.

The new shop’s bread and butter is embroidery services for items such as hats, and T-shirts.

Mercy Speth, who runs the shop with her husband Kerry, said the business recently acquired a silk screen machine that will allow for printed shirts.

“People are friendly and there is a lot of need in Oak Harbor,” Mercy said.

Speth said that they are marketing their services toward local organizations such as churches and businesses that need uniforms.

Bayview can also perform dye sublimation which is used to make items such as licence plate borders and picture frames.

The Speth’s started working their business out of their home in February and moved into the Pioneer Way location at the end of May.

The new location gave the Speth’s the size to bring in the silkscreen equipment.

In the next couple of weeks, the Speth’s are going to be putting a bigger sign next week.

The Speth’s got into the embroidery and shirt business because it combined both Mercy and Kerry’s experience. Mercy has experience as a seamstress and Kerry worked on computer while in the Navy.

The Speth’s have been living in Oak Harbor for the past eight years.

When Kerry retired from the Navy earlier this year, the Speth’s decided to stay in Oak Harbor so their daughter, Tiffany, could complete high school. The girl also helps out with the new store, working at Bayview Embroidery ‘N Print on a part-time basis.
