Beginning Friday, Oct, 3, Island County Historical Society Museum will conduct a poster contest open to children ages 3 to 16 in conjunction with a new exhibit entitled Native American Heritage of the Pacific Northwest: Tribal Influence and History in Island County to open at the museum in late January. The winners of the contest will have their artwork printed as posters as part of the museum’s advertising of this exhibit. In addition, winners will be awarded free admission to the museum the year that the exhibit will be on display.
Contest rules are:
1. Entry forms must be picked up at the museum starting Friday, October 3.
2. The artwork, with the entrant’s name on the back, and the entry form must be turned into the museum no later than 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 28.
3. The artwork must portray something about Native American heritage in the Pacific Northwest and must be done in crayon, pencil, oil, acrylic, watercolor, or pastel.
4. Artwork must be no larger than 11 x 17-inche and must be in color.
5. Entrants must be between the ages of 3 and 16.
A panel of local artists and merchants will judge the artwork and winners will be announced Friday, Dec.5. The artwork will be divided into four age categories: 3 to 6, 7 to 9, 10 to 13 and 14 to 16, with one winner from each category to be chosen. All works submitted to the contest will be exhibited in the museum from Dec. 5 through Dec. 29 and the posters will be on sale in the museum’s gift shop.
Children interested in entering the contest are urged to do research at Island County Historical Society Museum where a collection of photographs will be available for viewing or to go to a local library.
