I am writing about fireworks displays by local residents around the Fourth of July holiday.

So many of us hope the county commissioners can change the number of days the public is allowed to light off legal and illegal fireworks. Because the county has limited resources in our police, sheriff and fire departments, let the public know by posting signs at the fireworks display booths and by placing advertisements in local newspapers to ensure the public is aware of the reduced number of days that it has to set off fireworks.

We believe that now is the time to take action on this issue, especially with the county’s budget situation being as dire as it is. Restricting fireworks to two days will reduce the number of calls to fire, sheriff and emergency personnel, saving the taxpayers money. Also, the reduced noise will result in less aggravation of local wildlife and domestic animals which crates more calls and overtime for the animal control department.

We think this is an important cause. It will benefit the community at large by assisting in reducing noise pollution and animal annoyance from fireworks displays.
