Once again our wonderful community answered the cry for help!! We found that the school district was struggling with preparing the school for the return of students this fall, with two facility maintenance staff down for medical reasons. Instead of having our kids return to the sight of their beautiful school all raggedy with overgrown and weed-infested landscaping, we organized a cleanup day to get the walkways, planting beds and parking areas weeded, trimmed, raked and swept. We had only to put the call out to our community’s service groups and, of course, they answered with volunteers.
Many, many thanks go to the 60-plus people who came out last Saturday — a very windy, Whidbey day — to help in this endeavor. We had volunteers from the Lions, both Central Whidbey and Coupeville; the Coupeville Elementary School PTA; the Coupeville Garden Club; the Coupeville MS/HS Booster Club; the Rainbow Girls; the Coupeville HS Honor Society; the CHS Football team; students, family members and some school district employees.
It is truly gratifying to live in this beautiful town and be a part of this caring community.
Thank you all for helping!
