Celebration of island music coming to Greenbank Farm

Jump and jive June 22, 23

A weekend of summer concerts at Greenbank Farm June 22 and 23 will give people a great chance to hear amateur and professional local island talent while benefiting the farm’s project to heat the big barn.

The celebration of island music plays from noon to 10 p.m. each day.

The 24 finalists from the island-wide karaoke contest compete for the grand prize Saturday June 22. The winner will receive a professional recording of their song on CD, donated by Sound Trap Recording Studio in Freeland. Their song will be played for an entire month on Whidbey Island’s local radio station, KWDB radio, 1110 AM.

In the evening, following the karaoke finals, Harbor Sounds Trio, featuring Bruce Howard, Sally Howard, Greg Barnes and Roy Gabelein will supply jazzy tunes. Later, original music that’s bound to keep people on their toes, will come courtesy of Eleventh Hour, Oak Harbor’s almost-all-girl band featuring CJ Field, Donna McCarty, Kim Grigaliunas, Brannon Wright and Falon Brummett.

Sunday highlights more local musicians invited from the ongoing Island Open Mic Unplugged series. (There are three remaining Open Mic nights from which local musicians may receive an invitation to perform at the Greenbank Farm Summer Concert: June 6 in Oak Harbor’s For Pete’s Sake, June 13 at the Dog House in Langley, and June 15 at American Legion Hall in Langley.)

Sunday’s entertainment continues with Buffy Cribbs’ Band Jax, and acoustic rock of Adobe Abode featuring Jack Knauer, Marty Hill and Linda Maté, KWDB Radio, 1110 AM, “The Voice of Whidbey Island,” will be broadcasting live from the farm on both days.

Chicken and ribs prepared on the barbecue by Chef Patti of Casual Gourmet, pies and coffee from Whidbey Pies Cafe, beer and wine will all be available on both days.

All entertainers and sponsors are volunteering their time and energy to support Greenbank Farm’s efforts to heat the barn and make it a year-round community meeting place.

Ticket prices are $12 general admission; $10 seniors and students, and $5 for kids under 12, per day. Tickets are available at the door, on-line at everywhidbeything.com, or by calling GreenBank Partners at 679-4656.
