Deckwa is a jewelry designer and Emmons creates watercolors. Meet them at the Gallery’s First Friday event from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7. Enjoy chocolates and refreshments while looking over Garry Oak Gallery’s local art.

Deckwa began creating her jewelry from “vintage” jewelry. She took old pieces, some of them family heirlooms, and made them into new creations. Since then, she has attended many classes to keep her designs fresh. “Finding unique focal beads, unusual colors and rare stones keep my designs one-of-a-kind. It has become a wonderful passion,” Deckwa said.

Emmons, also passionate about his art, paints the island’s scenes and is always looking for a new Whidbey spot to be the subject of one of his colorful, whimsical watercolors. “I see Whidbey as a place where everything and everyone are possible subjects,” Emmons said. “The image I put on paper may not be exactly as you remember it but it will be close enough that you will recognize it.”
