Recognize the danger of driving

Thanks very much for the front page coverage March 10 (Sheriff cracks down” and “Whidbey roads claim a dozen”) of the dangers we face driving on our very own roads. I would be in favor of even more deputies patrolling the roads, slowing us all down and thereby keeping us safer.

We all need to recognize that simply getting in our cars is the most potentially lethal thing we can do on the island. So, let’s slow down, fasten our seatbelts, and of course not be drinking and driving.

Here’s to a safer 2007, although I am aware that at least one valuable life has already been claimed this year on our highways.
