Decades ago, Coupeville opened up a state of the art firehouse. Today, the Boys and Girls Club occupies the building, providing a safe landing spot for the youth of Coupeville. The sad reality, however, is that that old firehouse is cramped and noisy and loud.
Why is Washington State University looking at Greenbank Farm, where the community gathers, eats, shops, walks the trails and marvels at the brilliance of cooperation it took to make the farm a community asset for all to enjoy?
This July 4 was marked by the most extreme fire danger in many years, and still people chose to buy and explode personal fireworks because it is their “right.”

It’s hard to believe that such a litany of errors, omissions, and/or missteps could happen anywhere. Yet, with the worst of all possible outcomes, the recent death of Keaton Farris, we see that even in our own county jail such is possible.
People have complained about jet noise for a long time, but think about it — the Navy is good for all of us. They are fighting for our country.
During a recorded radio show on KSER radio, “Sound Living” at 4 p.m. on June 19, Citizens of Ebey’s Reserve leadership made two amazing statements: “People are dying [because of the jet noise]” and “Oak Harbor is filled with crime because of the Navy.”
These unbelievable, over-the-top lies signify COER’s desperation — their “last gasp.”
I deeply appreciate Whidbey Island Naval Air Station’s open house on June 27. The flying, the quality human-to-human time and sense of purpose — especially with the Team Whidbey banner and flying — was much renewed.
