Mayor’s comments construed as lies

This letter is in response to your June 11 editorial, “Voters are in for a good time.” How could you completely ignore the greatest moral turpitude issue in the upcoming mayoral election? The mayor is a liar; or OHPD Detective’s Ron Hofkamp’s letter to the editor on page seven was never read by you or your staff.

Every Oak Harbor police officer is completely investigated to include passing a polygraph exam to determine their truthfulness. Do you realize their testimony as evidence can put people in prison? The mayor called two sworn officers liars as reported by Justin Burnett’s lead story (“Dudley files, escorted by cops”) on June 8.

Veracity is not something you turn on or off. You have it, or you don’t. Until you investigate this issue completely you are not unbiased and therefor not a true source of news in our community.

The mayor’s website cites his Whidbey News-Times 2010 “best community leader award,” however, I feel you should take him at his own quote, “This campaign isn’t going to be about yesterday, it’s going to be about the future.”

By the way, The police department’s website opens with their mission statement: “Dedicated to Community Safety and Service.”
