Letter: Candidate concedes with sadness

Editor,

It is with great sadness that I write to concede my electoral race for Port Commissioner – District 3. In October, the current Commissioner, John Callahan, had relinquished his position in the race through this very media, endorsing me as his opponent. I was eager to serve the community of Whidbey as a fresh face.

Then, Election Day rolled around and my opponent was leading. Without any notice or communication, I sat in on two public hearings held by the Port of Coupeville only to hear from others on the call that Callahan was indeed keeping his position. Weeks later, and with a clear communication line to myself, Mr. Callahan has still not directly told me what his plans are in terms of the position, I can only assume based on other’s conversations during public meetings that he has every intention to keep his position.

Shame on me for being eager to support my community and believing the publicly printed direct words of Mr. Callahan.
