Is Homola ready to make decisions at greater level?

Why post a poorly thought out policy as an accomplishment?

Editor,

As a Democrat, it pains me to write this letter, but I must after reading Angie Homola’s list of accomplishments on her campaign website. Under the “Energy Efficiency” section, the web site states, “Adopted curb side recycling county wide; however, before the program was implemented, it was undone by the next board of commissioners.”

Let’s examine this. When the statement says “county wide,” what it meant to say was county wide for only those folks who had established garbage service. It would have been one thing to make recycling mandatory for every property owner, but it didn’t.

What the policy did was foist a recycling tax on folks who had garbage service only. This tax was repressive as it targeted the elderly and disabled folks who could not cancel garbage service and haul it themselves.

Yes – that is correct – if you wanted to avoid this recycling tax all you had to do was cancel your garbage service and haul it yourself. The additional problem with that is many folks would have cancelled their garbage service and hauled it themselves. That in turn would have caused folks to collect larger amounts of garbage at their house to make the trip to the dump more worthwhile. And collecting garbage attracts vermin, which carry disease.

This was a very poorly thought-out policy and it is no wonder the next board of commissioners reversed that decision. Why would someone want to post such a poorly thought-out policy to their list of accomplishments?

Voters should carefully consider whether Homola is ready to make decisions now at a greater level of responsibility at the state level. That is why come election day I will cast my vote for Sen. Barbara Bailey.
