Help House awestruck by help

Everyone must’ve been good this year at North Whidbey Help House, because Santa was very generous during “Christmas in July.” We received over 6,700 food items and just over $16,000 in monetary donations. With everyone struggling with the high cost of food, fuel, just about everything, we are simply awestruck by the generosity of this community.

Special thanks to Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor for again sponsoring this important event. We’d also like to give a big thumbs up to Lou Mahler and her gang for helping with the sorting of the food. Thanks also to Saar’s Market Place and the Kiwanis, Safeway and the Oak Harbor Lions, Albertsons and the Aviation Ordnanceman Association, and Wal-Mart and CMO 10 for the use of their facilities and the volunteer hours that were given during our food drive.

To Island Drug for their promotion and to the City of Oak Harbor employees, mayor and city council members, and all the other businesses that had collection boxes. To all the churches, community organizations and people who sent in checks, dropped money into cash jars and those who walked in and gave us food, please accept our sincerest thanks.

Help House has been able to feed the hungry on northern Whidbey Island for over 31 years without ever having to close our doors because of lack of food. We could not accomplish this feat without the continued support we receive every day, and not just during our big drives. From the board of directors, staff, volunteers and clientele, thank you all for helping us fight hunger in our community.
