Unless logic has escaped me, I thought North Whidbey Fire and Rescue was a tax funded organization and part of Island County services. If the county has land that is not being used (an old dump site, News-Times, July 22), why in the world would another county funded organization be required to pay for land the taxpayers already own?

As to the fact that Ms. Homola has unexplained “touchy-feely” concerns about the environmental impacts, maybe instead she should be concerned about the waste of taxpayer funds when there is property available that should cost nothing.

How much environmental impact could we talking about? A single-story building on a concrete slab with a foundation maybe two feet deep at the most, and on a site that would have little other practical use other than a normally unoccupied structure.

I would think the commissioners should be saying, great idea, Chief Koorn, but then how often is logic ever appled in government?
