Flyers win seven regional titles

Coming off the victory at the Washington state championships May 17, Moving and Grooving’s Island Flyers tumbling team finished the season in fine fashion at the May 31 Region 1 championships at Magnuson Park in Seattle.

The Flyers faced stiff competition at the event with more than 200 athletes from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah entered in the championships.

Eight-year-old Grace Vandelac won gold medals both the Level 4 tumbling and Level 5 double mini events.

In Level 3 trampoline and Level 4 tumbling, eight-year-old Colby Russell was a double gold-medal winner.

Hannah Barnes, age seven, won first place and won a gold medal in Level 3 trampoline and nine-year-old Lauren Aspery was a gold-medal winner in Level 4 trampoline.

Rounding out the Flyers’ gold medal winners was 11-year-old Amelia Berner, who took first place in the Level 4 trampoline competition.
