After all the education that is done year after year on leaving children and pets in cars during a heat wave, it astounds me the number of people who still just don’t seem to get it. I saw not one, but two people downtown Friday afternoon who left their dogs in hot cars, all windows rolled up except for one that was only cracked three inches. The other car’s owner said she had had the air conditioner on earlier. Well, I was there at least 5 to 10 minutes, far longer than your car stayed cool after you left it, I’ll warrant. The temperature was 85 degrees outside. After three days of hot weather, the vehicles will heat up much more quickly than at the beginning of the heat wave.
What can start out to be “just five minutes,” which is bad enough in this hot weather with little to no windows open, more often than not turns into longer. These beautiful animals depend on you for their care and well being. Be responsible, and, don’t act like I’m the unreasonable one such as you did this afternoon when telling me to mind my own business. Know that for any animal in public that is in danger, I will make it my business. Be angry at me all you want, just use common sense and don’t do that to your poor dog again.
