Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club

The Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club’s freestyle season started this week.

The club is looking for new members and is open for children 5 to 18 years old.

Practices through May are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 at the Oak Harbor High School mat room.

Club spokesman Bethany Lamb said the club “teaches self-disciple, self-control, work ethic and perseverance.”

She added, “Our wrestlers learn the value of working hard as a team in a challenging and fun environment.”

North Whidbey Little League

North Whidbey Little League will hold evaluations Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19 and 20.

Baseball evaluations take place Saturday, Feb. 19, at Windjammer Park, Field A: 9-year-olds, 9 a.m.; 10-year-olds, 11; 11-year-olds, 1 p.m.; and 12-year-olds, 2:30.

Softball evaluations will be Sunday, Feb. 20, at Volunteer Park, Field 1:  9- and 10-year-olds, 1 p.m.; 11- and 12-year-olds, 2; and 13- and 14-year-olds, 3. Registrations will be taken that day, and forms can still be found at Big 5, McDonald’s, Burger King, Dairy Queen and Wendy’s.

Central Whidbey Little League

Central Whidbey Little League will be conducting registration and tryouts Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Coupeville High School gym.

All players ages 9 to 12 are required to tryout and are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled time.

Open registration for players ages 4 to 8 and 13 to 15 will be conducted from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Tryouts for baseball and softball, ages 9 to 12, will be as follows: baseball, 1:30 p.m.; softball, 3 p.m.

Registration and medical release forms are available on the website and will also be distribute at school during the week of Feb. 14.

Oak Harbor Babe Ruth Baseball

Oak Harbor Babe Ruth Baseball will conduct tryouts March 5 and 6 at the Oak Harbor High School baseball field from 1 to 3 p.m.

No advance registration is required for tryouts.

The Skagit Valley Babe Ruth League is a competitive, travelling league for select 12-, 13- and 14-year-olds in Island, Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Training will be oriented toward Oak Harbor High School baseball mechanics, philosophy and expectations.

Boating Safety Class

The Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a one-day class, About Boating Safely, Saturday, April 16.

This class will give attendees the knowledge needed to obtain a Washington Boater Education Card.

Topics include general information about boats and maintenance, navigation rules, aids to navigation and what to do in case of boating emergencies. Total cost is $30, including textbook. Many insurance companies offer boat insurance discounts to people who successfully complete this course.

Whidbey Island Running Club

The Whidbey Island Running Club, sponsored by the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District, is looking for new members.

Interested participants can contact the John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool at 675-7665 or head coach Catie Rodeheffer at 279-2196 to get information on practice times and locations.

North Whidbey Aquatic Club

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke.

The first two weeks are free.
