Taking advantage of its home waters, the North Whidbey Aquatic Club won a three-team meet at John Vanderzicht Pool Friday, July 20.

The Aquajets piled up 2,423 points to easily defeat the Anacortes Thunderbird Aquatic Club (1,012) and the Lake Stevens Tiger Sharks (592).

NWAC was led by triple-event winners Kyle Coonan (mixed 10-and-unders) and Baelee Whitinger (mixed 11-12’s).

Other event winners were AJ Dennen, Caitlin Dennen and Alli Hoffmire.

Brynn Schmid was Swimmer of the Meet, clocking 100 percent personal bests in all individual and relay events and cutting 28 seconds off in 25 breaststroke (34.96), 14 seconds off in 25 freestyle (23.82) and eight seconds off in 25 backstroke (29.53).

The RelayBig Award went to Cedric Cabigting for dropping 14 seconds in the leadoff legs of both the 200 freestyle relay (29.18) and the 200 medley relay (31.75).

Other award winners were Madelyn Coonan, Spirit; Ashleigh Merrill, Sportsmanship; and Carl Davis, Helper.

Posting person bests in all individual events were Taliah Black, Mollie Briddell, Cedric Cabigting, Casey Cabigting, JD Cabigting, Caitlin Dennen, Sophia Dickinson, Sydney Dickinson, Jenna Flores, Josh Jepsen, Cristian Mathis, Merrill, Ken Morrow, Schmid and Bruce Vagt.

Earning PRs in all relay swims were Black, Briddell, Cedric Cabigting, Casey Cabigting, JD Cabigting, Davis, Tricia Desquitado, Trina Desquitado, Sophia Dickinson, Sydney Dickinson, Mariel Empinado, Flores, Josh Jepsen, Jeron Kosbar, Maya Krantz, Chloey Lupien, Mackenzi LaRue, Mathis, Morrow, Erika Polack, Andrea Ruben, Brynn Schmid, Cavan Schmid, Vagt and Shamus Warden.

Morrow added a team record.

NWAC next competes at the PNS Championships June 26 to 29 in Federal Way, where it will field a team of 20 athletes.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
