Our dear father Wayne Keener passed away June 8, 2008, surrounded by his three children.
He was a devoted, kind father, a loving indulgent grandfather and a caring brother and friend. Wayne will be deeply missed for his generous fun loving spirit, his larger than life presence and his optimism in the face of adversity.
Born June 8, 1937, in Bothell, he graduated from Bothell High School in 1955. At 15 he became a member of the Steven’s Pass ski patrol, skiing with the patrol for the next 15 years. He was a member of the National Guard and attended Central Washington University. Wayne began his career in the meat business at the age of eight working for his father at Keener’s Meats in Bothell. In 1963 the company incorporated and became K&N Meats. He was an owner and CEO of K&N until its sale in 2001, at which time he moved to his home at Dugualla Bay on Whidbey Island to live full-time. Wayne had a passion for the meat industry and believed that integrity and quality were the keys to success.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Carol Keener and his parents Lois and Vernon Keener. He is survived by daughter Christina Thoren (Mike) of Berthoud, Co., son Stephen Keener (Cassie) of Vashon Island and son Jeff of Bothell. He leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Orrin, Kade, Kali, Kace and Kelsi; his brother, John Keener (JoAnn) of Bothell; sister, Kathy Keener (John) of Bow; nephews Jay and Ray Keener and nieces Sharon Reynolds and Sarah Manning.
His family would like to acknowledge and thank the kind nursing staff at Overlake Hospital and his wonderful doctor, Ron O’Quin, for the quality of care they provided during his long illness. To all his devoted and caring friends, thank you for your love, visits, cards, flowers and encouragement.
A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday June 18, at the Cedar Park Church, 16300 112th Ave NE Bothell. Reception to follow at Overlake Golf Club. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his name to the Ryther Childrens fund (Ryther.org), 206-517-0215. We will miss you Dad! God bless.
