Merlyn June Gamlen

Merlyn June Gamlen, 81, was carried into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in Ferndale, following a lengthy illness.

June was born in Bellingham on June 4, 1928, to Matthew and Pearl Balfour, and lived most of her life in the Ferndale-North Bellingham area. She was a graduate of Ferndale High School, and was employed for many years by the Bellingham School District. She was an accomplished musician, having taught piano, directed church choirs and served as pianist and organist in both Calvary Temple in Bellingham, as well as other churches in Western Washington throughout the years.

June is survived by her three children: Heidi Kuzina (Paul) of Oak Harbor, Jill Fox (Jim) of Ferndale and Paul Michael Gamlen (Janell) of Port Orchard; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; also, numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by two sisters and twin great-granddaughters. June lived from Dec. 2006 until July 2009 at Regency on Whidbey, and was dearly loved by those who cared for her there.

A Musical Celebration of June’s life took place Dec. 4 at Whatcom New Life Assembly in Ferndale, preceded by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
