‘Hope and change’ result in failure

Recently, readers of this paper were treated to the appalling news that the Island County commissioners have so failed in their most basic duty – to prepare a budget for the use of county tax funds – that a panoply of county officials were forced to write a letter begging them to do their jobs.

Recently, readers of this paper were treated to the appalling news that the Island County commissioners have so failed in their most basic duty – to prepare a budget for the use of county tax funds – that a panoply of county officials were forced to write a letter begging them to do their jobs.

The letter said, “We do not believe it is an overstatement to say we are on the verge of collapse.”

It is further proof, as if any was needed, that these commissioners are so distracted by the pet projects of their rich, liberal financial backers that they are unable, unwilling, or simply too incompetent to do the work the taxpayers elected them to do.

I sure don’t remember the sheriff, the prosecutor, the assessor, the auditor, the clerk and the treasurer ever having to sign such a letter while Mac McDowell was on the Island County Commission, do you?

I wonder if the voters of Island County are finally waking up to the load of garbage they swallowed with all that “hope and change” malarkey they were fed last year. It seems to me that it is time, as they say, to “throw the bums out.”
