Lora E. Murray died at her home in Coupeville on Nov. 22, 2009 at the age of 87. She was born Dec. 26, 1921 in Sisseton, S.D. During World War II, she moved to California to work in an aircraft factory. At the end of the war, she married James Murray and they moved to Oak Harbor.

Lora went to work for the USO/YMCA in 1980 as a receptionist and bookkeeper, where she remained until her retirement at the age of 80 years young. She loved playing Bingo and walking West Beach, looking for agates.

Lora is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jim and Shari Murray of Coupeville; one brother, Lowell Werdal; one sister, Lois Werdal of Rapid City, S.D.; her grandchildren, Aura Murray of Kirkland, Shane Murray of Key Peninsula, Tonya Llewellyn of Everett, Meghan Sams of Oak Harbor, Amanda Wright of Orcas Island, Rebecca Wilkinson of Miles City, Mont., Joe Walters of Freeland and Kima Kilpatrick of Anacortes; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

Lora requested no formal funeral service be conducted. Memorials are requested to the Oak Harbor YMCA. Arrangements entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
