Isabel M. Hinson

Isabel M. Hinson, 90, of Oak Harbor, passed away Dec. 21, 2008, at Whidbey General Hospital. She was born May 3, 1918, in Meadville, Penn., to Charles E. and Alma (Wood) Graham. She is survived and loved by her children Carol Nunley, Gary Goddard, and Linda Lemmon; cherished friend Jim Ferguson.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many other special loved ones, friends and her companion dog Jack.

Isabel married Lester A. Hinson on April 24, 1948, in Long Beach, Calif. They lived happily together for 47 years. In 1999, Isabel left her home in Mira Loma, Calif., after her husband passed. She moved to Oak Harbor with her daughter Linda and her family.

She lived in Oak Harbor for over 9 years. She wasn’t the type of person to love the cold weather, but she loved being on the Island with her family and friends. She moved into Western Village where she met many wonderful people and was grateful for every memory she had.

She enjoyed her time with friends at the Senior Center, exercise class, trips to the casino and gardening. She also loved her weekly trips to the library to get books, which she read every second that she could. And most of all, her pie making was 5 Star and in her 90 years, she never said no to making an apple pie.

Isabel was as wonderful a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother as anyone could ever ask for. Isabel and her husband had a marriage that you only read about in books, and were the roots of the tree that made the family stand strong through all of life’s ups and downs. The only good to come out of all this is knowing they are together again with God.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Island Transit for all the rides around town. It gained and maintained Isabel’s independence. It was truly appreciated.

Isabel will be laid to rest with her husband Lester Hinson in Whittier, Calif., at Rose Hills Cemetery.

Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor has been entrusted with arrangements.
