Henry Harold Hightower, Jr.

Henry Harold Hightower, Jr. was born in Missoula, Mont., on Sept. 17, 1923 to Henry and Marjorie (Lily) Hightower.

The Hightower clan moved to Oak Harbor to see if it really does rain every day; this included his younger sister Marjorie (Finn), his only sibling and provider of five nieces and nephews, Sport, Bev, Mike, Pat and Cindy.

Harold married Rowena (Oakes) and went into the military to serve his country in the Korean War.

Returning home Harold packed up his wife and moved to Oak Harbor where he started work at NAS Whidbey as a locksmith. They raised their three children, Marla (Chuck) Hal (Nancy) and Tom in the Penn Cove area.

Harold later married Harriet (Lang) Butler who preceded him in death. She is survived by two sons Alan and Dale (Mel) and their children and grandchildren.

Harold’s other descendants include three grandchildren, Heath, Chad and Holly; and five great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Amelia, Brady, Cody and Kaylee.

Harold was very involved in the American Legion and through the years was involved in many community volunteer organizations.

Harold passed away May 17, 2011, leaving behind many loved ones and friends, most especially his lady love and traveling companion Martha Mackie.

Special thanks to Martha’s children Carol, Joe, and Curt for their love and friendship through the years.

Private services were held June 4 at the American Legion Cemetery in Granite Falls.
