Millie Goebel’s career-best 87 helped lift the Oak Harbor girls golf team to a third-place finish in the district tournament at Everett’s Legion Memorial Golf Course Monday, May 16.

Coach Andy Wesley said, “The girls played great.” His club finished fourth in the Wesco tournament last week but jumped ahead a spot in the district meet which included the same Wesco schools as well as three other teams from the Northwest Conference.

Glacier Peak won the team title with 449 strokes. Shorewood had 479, Oak Harbor 502, Everett 505, Mount Vernon 520, Lynnwood 528, Meadowdale 570, Mountlake Terrace 575 and Sedro-Woolley 601.

Goebel’s 87 put her in seventh place in the individual standings, one spot ahead of teammate Annie Leete with 91. Mara Cortez shot 102, Sasha Olson 104, Bree Roderos 118 and Alyssa Siwa 135.

Goebel, Leete, Cortez and Olson all made the cut of 31 golfers who advance to the second round Tuesday. The two-day total will determine the individual champion and which 16 girls will advance to the state tournament at Liberty Lake outside of Spokane next week.

Everett’s Jody Barhanovich earned medalist honors with a 75 on the par-72 course.
