Glynlon Edward Tews

Glynlon “Glenn” Edward Tews was born July 20, 1930, in Norfolk, Neb., to Leo Herman and Goldie Mae (Bower) Tews. He died Jan. 22, 2009, after a brief illness, with his family and friends at his side.

Glenn met and married his first wife, Beverly, in 1953. She preceded him in death in 1963, after a long battle with cancer. They had two daughters, Maria Elaina Tews of Pennsylvania and Dianna Lynn Tews of Lynden.

In 1970, Glenn met and married his wife Betty Lou (O’Briant) Tews. He is survived by his wife Betty, his two daughters, step-sons Raymond Allen Willey of Oak Harbor and M. Lindsey Willey of Greenville, S.C., his sisters, Charlene Perry of Lawton, Iowa, Vilet Anne Spencer of Neleigh, Neb., numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews. One sister, Marlene Ougden, preceded him in death.

During his long life, Glenn was a member and Past Worshipful Master (1998) of Whidby Island Lodge 15, Free and Accepted Masons of Washington, where he was presented the Hiram Award in December 2007. He was also a member of Burlington-united Lodge 93, a charter member of Burlington Lodge 254, as well as a life member of Bannack Historic Lodge 3-7-77.

Glenn held a 32nd degree in both Scottish and York Rites and was a member of Hesperus Commandery 8, Knights Templar of Washington. Glenn was also an active Shriner; a member of Nile Shrine, Seattle and avid member of the Nile Truckers where he was a past director. He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, 2362, where he was serving as Esquire at the time of his death.

Glenn served for five years in the U.S. Navy as photographer, and for 37 years in the Civil Service as a machinist and foreman at the Naval Air Re-work Facility, San Diego.

A memorial will be held at the Oak Harbor Elks Club Thursday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. The family requests no flowers. Contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
