Gerald Robert “Jerry” McGowen, 74, died suddenly May 10, 2012, at his home in Oak Harbor. Born in Dixon, Neb., Jerry spent most of his life in the Northwest. He was raised in Seattle and graduated from Franklin High. He married Lucinda “Cindy” Little in 1966 and they made their home in Lynnwood until her death. Jerry was a pressman and after a short time with the Seattle PI, spent 40 years working for the Seattle Times.
In 2002, Jerry moved to Oak Harbor with son Rob, building a new home together. Their most recent project was the purchase of Midway Florist Shop and revamping the store. Jerry enjoyed RV’ing in his motorhome, cruising the San Juan Islands, cooking, family, helping others and friendships.
Survivors include son Rob McGowen of Oak Harbor; daughter Laurie J. McGowen Seigrist (Tom) of Black Hawk, Colo.; two granddaughters, Brandi and Stephanie; one grandson, William; one sister, Sue Eddie of Kirkland; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy McGowen of Westport and Janet Randall.
