Everett Lee “Mac” McGuire, 67, 33-year resident of Oak Harbor, died Jan. 2, 2004 at his home, following a brief illness. Mr. McGuire was born in Fort Smith, Ark., May 20, 1936, to Chester Lee McGuire and Juanita (Huggins) McGuire. He was raised in Fort Smith. For a time, he was employed for a local meat packer, delivering meat to customers. He eventually joined the US Navy and served for 20 years, retiring as an E-6. During his years in the military, he served as a tugmaster and Boatswain’s Mate. His duty stations included San Diego, Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Viet Nam and Adak, Alaska, before returning to NAS Whidbey and retirement. He set up a dry dock at Cam Ranh Bay and ran a reefer at Saigon. Mac was married to Arvada Letha Hollister July 29, 1961, in Las Vegas. They finally settled in Oak Harbor in 1973. Mac was a member of New Covenant Fellowship. He enjoyed gardening, drawing, playing harmonica and wood working. He was also a member of the Rod and Gun Club.
Mac is survived by his wife Arvada, at home; two daughters, Laura McGuire-Kent and husband Alan and son Wyatt of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Shannon Kraft and husband Nicolas and children Madison, Tanyon, Moises and Tucker; seven brothers, Albert McGuire and Jackie McGuire, both of Arkhoma, Okla., Richard McGuire and Tony McGuire, both of Fort Smith, Ark., Charles, Dickie and Roy McGuire, all of Roland, Okla.; two sisters, Connie Casey of Muldrow, Okla., and Doris Haney of Roland, Okla.; 37 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel. A private family graveside service at Maple Leaf Cemetery will be followed by a memorial service at New Covenant Fellowship Thursday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O.
