David D., III Davis

David D. Davis, III, 83, of Oak Harbor died suddenly in Bellingham on Feb. 25, 2010.

Dave was born on Nov. 16, 1926 in Chicago to David D. and Margaret Davis. A graduate of St. John’s Military Academy, Dave volunteered to join the Navy during World War II, and served as a Seaman First Class on the USS Colbert (APA145), the USS Blue Ridge (AGC2) and the USS Tazewell (APA209) in the Pacific Theater. He was an avid boater, a member of the Oak Harbor Yacht Club and a lifetime member of the United States Power Squadrons, where he achieved the rank of Senior Navigator and was proud to serve as Commander for the Bellevue Power Squadron in 1987 and as the Past District Commander for USPS District 16 in 1999.

His wife, Betty-Clare, preceded him in death. Dave is survived by his two daughters, Dee Davis of Woodinville and Kerry Mushkin of Snoqualmie Pass. In keeping with his wishes a private interment will take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Bellevue. There will be a memorial mass at Saint Augustine’s Catholic Church located at 185 North Oak Harbor St., Oak Harbor, on Friday, March 12 at 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of Dave’s life at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club, 1301 SE Catalina Dr., Oak Harbor.
