Daryl J. ‘Jackie’ Griesinger

Daryl J. “Jackie” Griesinger, 89, longtime Oak Harbor resident, died at her home following an extended illness.

Jackie was born in Fonda, Iowa, on Sept. 21, 1920, to Tony and Jessie (Gerber) Sargent. She was raised in Iowa and graduated from high school in Fonda. She attended several years of college, and taught in a one-room school house for a short time. On April 4, 1946, Jackie married Emmanuel “Lou” Griesinger. They moved to Los Angeles and then to Denver for a time, and then back to Los Angeles, where they resided until moving to Oak Harbor in 1982.

Jackie was a member of New Covenant Fellowship. She was an ardent writer and had been active in the Whidbey Playhouse. She wrote a play entitled “Crossroads of the Heart,” and also wrote a fantasy-mystery child’s book, “Road Kill.” Jackie also loved to paint, and studied under Whidbey artist Libby Berry. She enjoyed quilting and led Jazzercise and aerobics classes at the Oak Harbor Senior Center.

Private interment took place at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville. A Memorial Service is being planned, and will be announced at a later date.
