Charles W. Danner

Charles “Chuck” W. Danner, 89, died peacefully at his home in Everett, Oct. 23, 2009. He was born Feb. 11, 1920 to Albert Lea and Stella Mae “Bright” Danner in Seattle. Chuck was a 1938 graduate of Lincoln High School and was married to his “Sweetie,” Betty Jean Chittenden, Nov. 7, 1940 and was blessed to share 57 married years.

Chuck served 20 years in the Navy. During his service he and Betty were stationed in Atlanta, Ga.; Quonset Pt., R.I.; Memphis, Tenn.; and he retired at NAS Sand Point, Seattle, in 1960. In 1969 he and Betty moved to Oak Harbor where he completed 13 years of Civil Service employment at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and retired a second time in 1982.

Due to Betty’s health they relocated to Everett in 1996 to be closer to their children. In his younger years Chuck enjoyed being on the USNR Rifle Team, camping and fishing. In his later years he became very interested and involved in watching the stock market which provided him many hours of enjoyment at his computer.

In 1998 Chuck had a heart attack and was gratefully revived by Mary Lewis, his companion, which gave him 11 additional years to spend with his family.

Chuck is survived by four children and their spouses: Douglas S. Danner and wife Val of Westerham Hill, England; Don W. Danner and wife Carol of Mesa, Ariz.; Darlene M. and husband Paul Caron of Bothell; and Danette (Danny) J. and husband Jim Krieg of Oak Harbor; as well as one brother, Robert (Bob) Danner and wife Marilyn of Virginia Beach, Va.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by us here but will be greeted by his “Sweetie,” Betty, who he asked “Keep a light in your window” at her passing. No formal funeral services will be held.
