Arthur “Bud” Dale Gall

Arthur “Bud” Dale Gall, 74, died Aug. 1, 2007, of pancreatic cancer at his Lewiston, Idaho, residence.

Arthur was born Aug. 27, 1932, to Albert Gall and Othel Plews Gall in Dalkana, Wash. Bud attended Orchards Elementary School as a child. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1951, where he excelled in football.

Arthur married Marilyn Irene Rapp in San Leandro, Calif. Feb. 6, 1954. Marilyn died a few years later in 1957.

Bud was a veteran of the Korean conflict, Vietnam war, as well as a peacetime veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was a chief petty officer, and served from Aug. 9, 1951, to Aug. 9, 1957, and again from Aug. 26, 1957 to Sept. 6, 1972, retiring as an E-7 (AEC). Following his retirement from the Navy in 1972, Bud resettled in Lewiston. He was then employed as a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier from 1972 until June 4, 1990, at which time he retired.

Bud was a charter member of the Oak Harbor Elks, Fleet Reserve Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Eagles, American Legion, and Idaho Veterans Assistance League. He avidly raised funds for every service organization in the area, and for the Salvation Army.

For years, he and others spent all holidays serving coffee, cookies, and handing out fire starters to the travelers near Colgate Licks, on U.S. 12, 30 miles west of the Idaho/Montana border.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Gall.

Bud is survived by his sisters, Zelda O’Connor and Wanda Lawrence, both of Lewiston, a brother, Ray Gall of Everett; his life-long companion and common-law wife of more than 32 years, Jacqueline C. Young; her children, Cathy, Jim, Mandy, Debby, Doug, her grandson, Waylon Young of Pasco and others; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements for Bud are with Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston.

A memorial “Roast” is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at Lewiston’s Red Lion Hotel, port rooms three and four.

Memorial donations in Bud’s name can be sent to the “I Am An American” sculpture fund to be erected on the Lewiston Veterans Hospital grounds; Snake River Community Clinic, Fleet Reserve Association Senior Northwest Special Olympics No. 063; VFW No. 10043 for building repairs; the Lewiston Salvation Army Transient Fund; or the DAV Lewiston No. 18, for the veterans bus fund.
