Trophies awarded as Race Week ends

The silver anniversary of Whidbey Island Race Week ended with a bang at the Oak Harbor Yacht Club Friday evening, July 27. Race organizers reported 95 boats competed in nine separate classes this year and Director Bob Ross presented trophies to the top boats at Friday’s awards ceremony.

Winning the P0 Fleet with 9 points was Shrek, skippered by John Hoag.

Paul Faget, skipper of Kilo had a low score of 13 points to win P1 Fleet honors and Astral Plane, skippered by Adam Korbin won P3 Fleet with 12 points.

In P3 Fleet, Nikita, co-skippered by Kimberly and Kran Arnson, was the winner with 10 points, and Tom Gilbert and Dave Martin brought Graffix home the winner in P4 Fleet with 10 points.

Last Tango, with John Peterson at the helm, won P5 Fleet with 17 points, and “Rocky Horror’s” Time Warp was the winner in P6 with 12 points.

At the helm of Here & Now, Pat Denney won the P7 Fleet competition with 7 points, and Egress, skippered by Steve Trunkey, was the P8 Fleet winner with 10 points.

Bill Stange, at the helm of Tuesday, rounded out the winners, capturing the P9 Fleet championship with 7 points.
